#tarotthursdaythree for 02/23/2017
Welcome back, mystical bloggers! It's time for another round of #tarotthursdaythree. For those unfamiliar, each Thursday I feature 3 questions for you to copy, paste and answer in your own blog. This exercise is open to any and all, so feel free to jump in and join the fun! The questions always carry a theme of tarot and related metaphysics and I do take question submissions from others. So, if you want to send in your own, please fill out the form and I'll be in touch!
Let's get right into this week's questions...
1. If you could have your likeness immortalized on any one of the 78 cards, which would it be and why?
I feel like the obvious answer here would be the High Priestess, but I think I'd rather be featured as The Magician. You rarely see a female magician and I just think it'd be really badass.
2. When reading for yourself, are you able to remain unbiased and if so, what tips can you share for others?
This is something I definitely struggle with. It’s also along the same lines as to why I prefer reading for a relative stranger than let's say, a close family member. When it’s me, or someone I know very well, my left brain can get overly involved. I rationalize and try to find connections to things that I’m aware of that are happening in their or my life. With a stranger, sky is the limit and so it’s a more intuitive process. This is a work in progress, but one tip I have is to treat yourself like you would any other person. That means, when you lay the cards down, don’t just skim over them and give yourself the “yeah yeah yeah”. Actually record it all and dissect it, become immersed in it and provide yourself fulsome interpretations for each card. I always get far better results when I do this than when I make broad sweeping assumptions because I like, “know” my life or whatever.
3. What is your least favourite deck in your collection and why?
Definitely the Golden Tarot (not to be confused with the Golden Tarot: The Visconti-Sforza). I actually bought this deck by mistake, and I still can’t understand how it happened, except that I must have been on auto-pilot. I was actually after the Golden Universal and when I saw the word “golden”, I grabbed the box thinking I’d just scored a deck on my wishlist. Wrong. I opened it as soon as I got home and my excitement slowly faded to confusion as I noticed that the suits were totally unillustrated. A closer look at the box confirmed my regret, I’d bought the wrong deck. Live and learn - I should really pay more attention when I’m shopping or just in life in general. So I don’t just dislike it because I purchased it by mistake, it’s my least favourite for a few reasons. For starters, the art is uninspiring. Secondly, the stock is glossy, which I think looks cheap and also makes for poor pictures. Lastly, the unillustrated suits are dull. I tried to make it work a couple of times, but with so many other decks in my collection that do so much for me, I really have no reason to use this one.
And that's a wrap for this week. Check back again next Thursday for yet another round!
