Musickal Meditations - Channeling The Magician

Tarot and music (or sound/vibration) share an inextricable link. In a sort of subtle manner, the language of music is well fused into the cards. We refer to them as keys; we divide the deck into a Major and Minor arcana. When approaching the principles that tarot preaches, we are confronted with more along the musical lines - ideas of balance, harmony, vibration etc. In addition, many systems apply musical attributions (notes) to the major arcana - further alluding to the connection.

So is this just metaphorical, or is there a more literal implication? Many spiritual and philosophical systems will tell you that the study of sound will reveal greater mysteries of the universe. Pythagoras said “there is geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the spacing of the spheres”. Hazrat Inayat Khan is quoted as saying “He who knows the secret of sound, knows the mystery of the whole universe”. These are just two examples.

With this in mind, my partner Tim and I have been exploring this connection for some time, and recently we approached my dad to get a musical perspective because my dad is a musician. Coincidentally, he was in the midst of his own meditation project, and being a lifelong pursuer of the strange and occult, he was quite excited to see just what could be done with a single chord attribution, a description, and our vision.

So this all has essentially led us to this little project whereby Tim and myself provided direction to my dad who then, based on the energy and essence of a Major Arcana card, produced a piece of meditative music in its designated note. And yes, I recognize this is obviously not a new concept. Tarot-inspired meditations are certainly in existence, but this is our take and we’ve had a lot of fun working on the project.

Each element of this project has been carefully considered, from the chord selection to the length of the track to the written piece which accompanies it. The intention is to supply the user of the track with the musical essence of the Major Arcana in question to help them get in touch with their own inner archetype of that nature. We envision that one may use this as part of a regular meditative practice, to open up a divination session, to begin a ritual, or as a way to simply connect more with their deck.

Today, we’d like to share with you our Musickal Meditation for The Magician. Now, you could simply listen to the track and let your mind go, but for those who really want to dive into the essence of this card, we have prepared a meditative package including suggestions for ritual to really bring the energy to life. Keep reading to step into the world of the first Arcana and embrace your inner Magi.

We do hope you enjoy the sounds! We will be updating the YouTube page regularly as we add more tracks. Feel free to follow along - we’ll likely use the space for other content as well. I also plan on storing all meditations on a separate page of this site, so they are easy to find!

Meditation Package - The Magician in E Natural

Background: The purpose of these meditations is to allow you space to connect with the 22 Major Arcana, which are, in many ways, separated aspects of ourselves. Each element of this project has been carefully considered, from the note selection to the length of the track to the written piece which accompanies it. The intention is to supply the user of the track with the musical essence of the Major Arcana in question to help them get in touch with their own inner archetype of that nature. We envision that one may use this as part of a regular meditative practice, to open up a card reading session, before or during ritual, or as a way to simply connect more with their deck.

Description for The Magician: Connecting with the inner Magician will allow one to see how they are the conductor of their own life. This meditation is intended to guide you into awareness of cosmic processes and laws that will bring an understanding of how the universe (and the self) operates. The Magician energy is one that enhances concentration, willpower, and imagination. Tapping into this essence will allow one to see just what ingredients are required, and at what doses, to experience the desired result. The Magician brings balance and harmony among the elements. It is for those who wish to, through experimentation, find their own unique pathway to perfection.

Before listening to the meditation music, you may opt to create a ritual-like space using some of the suggestions below. Of course, these are just ideas - feel free to adapt to your liking!
