Podcast Feature: Talking Tarot, Telepathy & The Wisdom of Symbols with Jeff Carreira
A couple months ago I (Julia) sat down with Jeff Carreira for an interview about tarot, The Telepathy Tapes, cosmic consciousness and the wisdom of symbols. Here’s a little backstory leading up to our conversation.
Tim and I love tarot for many reasons, but one of our favourite ways to work with the cards is in an initiatory sense or as a path to “awakening”. I’m always cautious of talking about tarot in these terms, because I think there is a lot of room for these things to get misconstrued. What I mean to say is, among all its many intended uses, I also believe tarot is a map to our inner and outer worlds. And further to that, if we aim to understand it in this way, it can point us to many wonderful revelations that can further our spiritual/self development. In less words, we believe tarot is a tool that can alter and expand consciousness.
After reading Richard Bucke’s Cosmic Consciousness years back, I set out to find some more modern material that spoke about these experiences. Doing this led me to Jeff Carreira and his school, Emergence Education. Jeff has written many books, and one in particular, The Path of Cosmic Consciousness, spoke to me very deeply. When I finished with it, I reached out to let him know my thoughts and to share a bit about our work with tarot. Jeff responded and let me know that he’d recently become quite interested in tarot, and while he never spoke about that explicitly in his book, the parallels were there.
We’ve been in touch since, and recently Jeff invited me to be a guest on his podcast, which was also transcribed for his publication, The Artist of Possibility. In it, we talk about The Telepathy tapes, tarot, creativity and all the spaces “in between”. And actually, I had no idea we were going to talk about The Telepathy Tapes, so luckily I’d already binged the episodes and was quite happy to know all those notes I made about it were about to come in handy (maybe a form of premonition there in and of itself!)
